I've just gotta share these great summer art camps projects that I've shared with so many great kids at both Whatcom Community College (WCC), and at Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth (BAAY). We had so many talented kids who showed me how hard they wanted to make art, and then practice to get their skills to be fabulous artists, and all the while we had a blast doing it together.

I just loved watching each student showing me how focused they can be when they are drawing & how much fun we had when adding color to their work.

And then there are plenty of budding artists showing their work in the younger kids (K-5), art class at WCC called Beetles & Butterflies, Oh My! We made our insects by studying their anatomy and using pencils, wax resist, and watercolors with salt.
As you can see, the Dreams of Dali's Elephants summer art class at WCC was another success for kids in K-5 grades. We talked about Salvador Dali's imaginative paintings, and created our own versions of elephants with tall stilt-like-legs in watercolors.
At BAAY, the week of Drawing Art Camp was all about a variety of art to try together in our large class of K-6 graders at the downtown location. Everyone had a fun time playing drawing games, learning how to draw in still life with various mediums such as charcoal, pastels, and ink.
The second week of the BAAY Art Camp was all about painting. We even touched on some mixed-media methods with acrylics, collage, layering, soft pastels, and yes there was some glitter for fun!
I'm already looking forward to next year's summer art camps and all of the fun we will have in a whole different kind of art world. It always amazes me to see how far kids will go with using their imagination to make art in differnet ways and surprises galore!
