This February has had its challenges with the stormy and snowy winter weather for many of us in and around the Pacific Northwest, with school closures and travels. I hope that this means we are past the work of it, and spring will be around the corner with warmer temperatures, sunshine, and budding flowers. The kids art classes with BAAY EduArts had to be on hold last week, when the Bellingham Public Schools needed to close for dangerous travel through snow and ice. The good news is that we have many new things in the works for the rest of the month and into March.

Take a blank canvas & transform it into a creative work of altered art! In this class, you’ll create a mixed-media 12” x 16” painting while utilizing a variety of techniques such as collage, antiquing, blackened canvas, and the use of found objects onto canvas. Your finished painting will reflect an eclectic Steampunk style and you’ll leave with a treasure trove of skills to use on your next project.

The Kids Art Classes with BAAY EduArts include 3/D Sculpture Art (3-5), and Art I (k-2). We are making some mini sculptures out of recycled candy tins, mixed-media, large paper mache crayons in a rainbow of colors, cave drawings/paintings, Aurora Borealis in pastels & mixed-media projects.
At Whatcom Community College, there’s a Mixed Media: Assemblage Boxes class for ages 16 + adults, on March 6th - 20th Mondays, between 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
At Whatcom Community College, there’s a Mixed Media: Assemblage Boxes class for ages 16 + adults, on March 6th - 20th Mondays, between 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Explore new techniques in mixed media and create an assemblage--a form of three-dimensional visual art created from everyday items. Beginning with an upcycled box as the frame, you will create new meanings by recombining old objects such as weathered wood, vintage toys, sewing notions, small antiques, and family snapshots. Artist Rachel Simpson will discuss the process and examples of assemblage before giving you both practical and aesthetic advice as you construct your new work of art.
