BAAY Summer Art Camps!

This June - July, I’ll be teaching two different Summer Art Camps at BAAY located in downtown Bellingham, WA for two age groups of kids. What a wonderful way to celebrate this summer break, make some art, and go on a group tour to a local gallery or an art museum together. Take a look at both of these offered at Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth, and sign up quick before they are filled!

Drawing & Painting Art CampJune 26th – 30th and  July 5th - 8th, 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm, Ages 6 – 12
In this exciting summer art camp, we’ll gain the confidence & ability to work in any medium. We’ll take the first week to learn to accurately draw what we see, learning the beginning of perspective and shading, through the use of charcoal, graphite, oil and chalk pastels. The second week will be about painting, using watercolors/acrylic paints with different techniques to change the look and texture, drawing inspiration from Monet and Van Gogh. The class will also include a walking field trip to visit a local gallery or museum downtown. By making art of the world around us, we learn to see it in all of its beauty. (Optional: You can enroll for one week or the two weeks.)

Mixed Media & Sculpture
July 24th – 31st, and August 1st – 4th , 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, Ages 10 – 17
In this art course we’ll focus on three-dimensional art, starting the first week skill-building while learning the technique of collage, including use of photographs, upcycled materials, acrylic paints, textures, watercolors, and ink. During the second week, we’ll explore sculpture; we'll explore styles of sculpture while studying a variety of artists such as Leonardo DaVinci, Picasso, & Claes Oldenburg. Students will select an animal of their choice to build from, learn the use of building armatures, sculpting in clay, and painting to finish their pieces. The class will also have a one-day field trip to visit a local gallery or museum downtown.

The Wild Buffalo

This Friday, June 2nd at 9:00pm, there’s a new art competition happening at the Wild Buffalo!  I will be one of 12 artists competing in The Stroke Off, as a painting contest and community event, & you won’t want to miss out on this exciting night. Details: https://wildbuffalo.net/event/stroke-off/

BAAY EduArts!

We are wrapping up our kids art projects for the end of the spring session at various elementary schools in Bellingham. On our last days of art class, I put together a Show-and-Tell day with art games, and a photo booth for students and for their families to have fun as a group. It’s always a big hit, and I just love to see everyone smile as we put on a show. In just about 2 weeks, we’ll all be on summer break and able to enjoy the sunshine and some of us can make more art together!

Thank you for all your enthusiasm for The Arts and keeping it alive within our community!
