Summer days are surrounding all of us this August, while we enjoy the sunshine, cool shade under the trees, travels with family, & breaks in the soothing water. I’ve some exciting news to share with all of you… *drumroll* … I’ll be the new art teacher at Franklin Academy in Bellingham, for kids between 5th-8th grades, starting this fall for the upcoming school year! It’s such a great opportunity to be able to work with so many kids at one location, and I couldn’t be happier with the new journey in art education. (In case you’re wondering, I’ll still be teaching after school arts at both Carl Cozier and Silver Beach Elementary Schools this fall.)
On July 5th, was the exciting opening art exhibit for the Pride Art Show at the Sylvia Center for Performing Arts, that I put together, and it’s showing 10 different artists, historical documents from the WWU Artchives, and a treasure of an item – a bench from the Stonewall Riots. You can still view all of these showing at the Sylvia Center throughout August. We also had an amazing Dragtopia & All-Ages Variety Show on July 10th, that was a huge success! A big shout out of thank you’s to Shu-Ling Hergenhahn-Zhao, Nick Milhoan, Mattie Endrizzi (Betty Desire), Kevin Forrester Coleman, Alberto Rodriguez-Escobedo, WWU Archives, Sylvia Center for the Arts, Allied Arts of Whatcom County, and Bert Rotter for all your help in making this happen!

Fairhaven Art Walk – September 20th !
I’m thrilled to announce and invite all of you to join me at my next big art exhibit for my marine-life paintings, that will be showing at the Fairhaven Reality at 1100 11th St, Bellingham, WA, in the Fairhaven Art Walk on Friday, September 20th between 6-8pm. It’ll be my first time showing art in the old Fiarhaven district of our city, and at a great local business that’s been around for a long time, all-the-while supporting artists, and a part of the Fairhaven Art Walk, that’s on the 3rd Friday of every month. Join me and have some snacks, conversation, and enjoy the old district with some art!

Experiment with Paint, on October 5th, 10:00am – 2:00pm
Have you ever wanted to see the range of things you can do with paint? From learning about watercolor paints to thick layers of glossy acrylics, we will try it all! We will pour, brush, scoop, squeegee, and soak, creating unpredictable and surprising results. Even if you only plan to paint in a traditional way in the future, this will show you ways to use your materials that you never dreamt of before. Beginners and experienced artists welcome. $35 materials fee payable to instructor at class (plus registration). Bring your own canvas to paint on; sizes can range from 12"x16" to 18"x20".

Break out your creativity and have fun making a set of 4-6 holiday ornaments in this ceramic workshop! Learn how to use molds to make shapes such as stars and hearts, or learn how to create your own shape out of clay, applying underglaze to add a dash of color and shine. Your ornaments will be stained and fired in the kiln, ready for pickup November 25--just in time for the winter holidays and decorations or handmade gifts. Please bring sketch paper, pencil, eraser, and a ruler to class. All other materials included. Ages 10 and up are welcome to register with an adult.

Allied Arts of Whatcom County's Art ‘Xtravaganza!
Hot off the press! On October 13th, Allied Arts of Whatcom County will be working with the Heliotrope Hotel, in Bellingham WA, to host our 40th Year Anniversary celebration, called Art ‘Xtravaganza! I'll be helping out with organizing this big event celebration, and I'll have a room of an art installation with the famous artist, Kevin Forrester Coleman. Below is the press release:
HELIOTROPE ART EXTRAVAGANZA
BELLINGHAM, WA - JULY 25, 2019 Allied Arts of Whatcom County is celebrating 40 years of supporting our creative community and to celebrate we are throwing one heck of a party! We are invading the Heliotrope Hotel on Sunday, October 13, from 3pm to 7pm. The Heliotrope Hotel located at 2419 Elm St, Bellingham, WA 98225 in the Fountain District. Artists and organizations will take over the rooms and create interactive art displays, performances and music will be all over the hotel grounds, and food trucks will keep everyone’s bellies full. All ages are invited to come wander the hotel and grounds, listening to music, participate in immersive art experiences, sip beverages and eat their way through food trucks. Admission for the event will be $5 for adults and free for children under 12.
Artists aren’t handed the keys of their rooms until just a few hours before people begin showing up – so it’s a real feat of planning and swift artistry. They also need to completely move out and leave the room as it was after the event!
Rooms will vary from performances to installations to having items on display for sale. Featured artists and organizations are all active Allied Arts of Whatcom County members and have helped to make Whatcom County known for the arts locally, regionally and nationally.
Event programs will available the week prior to the event at the Heliotrope Hotel, Allied Arts Gallery, and online at www.alliedarts.org. It includes a map and information about the various themes of the rooms, artists and organizations.
Based on a similar event that took place in Boise, ID, the Heliotrope Art Extravaganza committee selected this year’s participants. “We want to give Allied Arts member artists and organizations an opportunity for showing their work, and to give the community a taste of the quality arts we have throughout the county.
Allied Arts of Whatcom County is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to the arts in our region by empowering local artists through organized festivals and events, enriching our local school children through educational outreach programs, and working as a liaison to art enthusiasts of all ages to help make our region a creative, vibrant place to live.
The Heliotrope Hotel is a 1950’s motel turned modern Pacific Northwest headquarters for hospitality, relaxation, and recreation. The owners - artists and designers, entrepreneurs, educators, parents, avid adventurers, and community contributors - are locals who care about this unique northwest corner and their guests’ experience here.

Art Education & More!
I teach art education K-12 at a few different elementary schools, in Whatcom County and the Bellingham School District as an independent contractor (after school arts enrichment programs), as well as private art lessons, parties/events, museums/galleries, and as a Teaching Artist with Allied Arts of Whatcom County. This non-profit is one that brings the arts to many kids throughout the schools, and I’m so thankful I can be a part of it and this community.
