“There’s nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.” —Bob Ross

Let’s talk about how this has been a month full of fun art, new things to learn, people to meet, and places to be. What a whirlwind this has been for me at my new position of art teaching middle school kids at Franklin Academy! I’ve been able to meet so many people, share stories, get a feel for the new space, learn about the school, try new art projects with new students, and create a safe and welcoming environment in the classroom. It’s been hard work, but one that I’m loving, and growing with at a 100%! I’ve already finished the first kids art project (Monochromatic Cubes), with my classes and started sharing images of them online. You can see more of all the kids art, the classroom, and my own art on both Facebook/Instagram: Rachel’s Whimsical Arts.

Did you know, that all are welcome to the next Bellingham Downtown Art Walk? The next one is on October 4th, between 6-9pm, located at Imagine Studio, 301 W Holly Street, D-5 (downstairs), Bellingham, WA 98225. We are open Monday-Friday 12-5pm for guests and open for the monthly Bham Downtown Art Walk.

Fairhaven Art Walk – Sept. 20th!

You are invited to join me at my next big art exhibit for my marine-life paintings, showing at the Fairhaven Reality at 1100 11th St, Bellingham, WA, as a part of the Fairhaven Art Walk on Friday, September 20th between 6-8pm. This is my first time showing art in the old Fairhaven district of Bellingham, and at a great local business that’s been around for a long time, who support local artists, and a part of the Fairhaven Art Walk, that’s on the 3rd Friday of every month. Join me for some great conversation, snacks, and enjoy the old district with some art!

Heliotrope Art ‘Xtravaganza - 40th Anniversary for Allied Arts!

Mark your calendars for October 13th! Allied Arts of Whatcom County’s 40th Anniversary party the Heliotrope Art ‘Xtravaganza! It’s at the wonderful Heliotrope Hotel, in Bellingham WA, who’s hosting as our venue for the big art event - Art ‘Xtravaganza, and it will include all of the arts in all forms, such as music, performers, visual art, poets, art shows, art installation, kids art activities, food trucks, and a beer garden! I will be working on an exciting art installation room with the famous artist, Kevin Forrester Coleman.

We will have a glowing, (can we say black light party?), bright, vivid room full of art! Some art will be for sale, and some that are just made for this exciting art event! Come and see our space at the Art ‘Xtravaganza!

Experiment with Paint, on October 5th, 10:00am – 2:00pm
Have you ever wanted to see the range of things you can do with paint? From learning about watercolor paints to thick layers of glossy acrylics, we will try it all! We will pour, brush, scoop, squeegee, and soak, creating unpredictable and surprising results. Even if you only plan to paint in a traditional way in the future, this will show you ways to use your materials that you never dreamt of before. Beginners and experienced artists welcome. $35 materials fee payable to instructor at class (plus registration). Bring your own canvas to paint on; sizes can range from 12"x16" to 18"x20".

Holiday Ornaments in Clay, November 16th, 10:00am – 1:30pm
Break out your creativity and have fun making a set of 4-6 holiday ornaments in this ceramic workshop! Learn how to use molds to make shapes such as stars and hearts, or learn how to create your own shape out of clay, applying underglaze to add a dash of color and shine. Your ornaments will be stained and fired in the kiln, ready for pickup November 25--just in time for the winter holidays and decorations or handmade gifts. Please bring sketch paper, pencil, eraser, and a ruler to class. All other materials included. Ages 10 and up are welcome to register with an adult.

Art Education & More!

I teach art education K-12 at a few different elementary schools, in Whatcom County and the Bellingham School District as an independent contractor (after school arts enrichment programs every quarter), as well as summer art camps, private art lessons, parties/events, museums/galleries, and as a Teaching Artist with Allied Arts of Whatcom County. This non-profit is one that brings the arts to many kids throughout the schools, and I’m so thankful I can be a part of it and this community.

Additionally,  you can find out more about all the fun art events, my art work, art exhibits, and art classes on my website and Instagram/Facebook pages: Rachel’s Whimsical Art.

Thank you for all your enthusiasm for The Arts and keeping it alive within our community!
