The Last Days of Winter is Around the Corner

This February became busier than I'd imagined, and so here I am, continuing to prepare for both current and future art classes. While I'm continuing to teach in the EduArts program with BAAY and local elementary schools this winter, I'm also working toward plans to teach kids art this summer! There are so many great things cooking in my colour pot that I can barely believe it. Only a year ago, I was trying to uplift my spirits with less work on hand, and volunteering at Allied Arts with their RARE expo. So it seems that if you do put in the hard work, and the time that seems like a slow moving snail, you do see results.

In less than a week, I will begin a new exciting teaching position at Whatcom Community College (WCC), in their Community Education program, as an Art Educator for both a Ceramics class & a Mixed-Media art class.

Registration is still open for the community art ed classes I'll be teaching at Whatcom Community College, beginning Feb 23rd & the 29th:

Ceramic Tiles Class February 23rd
A hands-on class of Ceramic Tiles for both beginners and novices in this 4-week course, where you will learn the skills of making grids in clay, design basics, using positive/negative space, and glazes.

Mixed-Media Meets Steampunk Class February 29th
This is a 4 week painting and mixed-media art class at WCC. You'll learn how to transform a blank canvas into a creative work of steampunk altered art with various ways to add texture, layers, and an antiquing technique. (Registration links are below .)

I'm also working on getting another art workshop (The Altered Books class), and new artwork to be at the Allied Arts of Whatcom County RARE event in April. After being a volunteer and member with Allied Arts for the last 7 years, I'm now a new Teaching Artist with them to begin another road of teaching kids art this spring. I'll have plenty of amazing opportunities to work with more students all around my home of Bellingham.

In addition to this new adventure in teaching art, I'm working on new art that involves recycling old pages from books, painting, cutting, and folding with paper crafts into flowers. I also make the flowers to be put into sculpture with textiles, & mixed-media. I've got a few big plans in the works for larger scaled work. Below are a few images of the current ones I've made...

I promise, there will be more to follow in the spring time. These book roses came about based on a few dreams that I had with use of my teacups as found objects, my love of textiles, painting, and making them into sculpture pieces. Currently, the Teacup Garden (the twin colourful teacup roses), are on display (and are for sale), at Allied Arts gallery located on 1416 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham, WA.

Besides working on new art, I've been happy at home with my partner in life. We have plans this year to travel, be outdoors, and move into a bigger place that suits all our needs. I'm excited to have a bigger space to become my studio, and also to be able to organize my supplies in a much better way than I have been. However, I've learned that I can work on smaller projects that still express my emotions, ideas, and imagination. It's given me a new love for dainty whimsical art that I can share.
