March is the beginning of spring!

and that means everyone gets the bug to be active and creative! Many of us are coming out of hibernation from the winter months, and after the snowy winter we’ve had in Whatcom County, we’ve all experienced it on some level of having a need for change.  I’m looking forward to the upcoming RARE, (Recycled Art & Resource Expo) weekend at Allied Arts of Whatcom County on April 7th & 8th here in Bellingham. Mark your calendars because it’ll be full of art classes (costs could vary between free to a low supplies fee), for all ages, art exhibit on Friday night art walk, and presentations. Find out more here: http://www.alliedarts.org/

The Kids Art Classes

Picture
These classes are with BAAY EduArts include 3/D Sculpture Art (3-5), and Art I (k-2) at various elementary schools in Bellingham, WA.

In the 3D Art classes we’re making large Paper Mache crayons and pencils in a rainbow of colors, and hopefully we’ll have time to do the clay project:  Cha-Cha-Cha-Chia Pets. In the Art I kids classes there’s a couple projects that include a Dali inspired Elephants in watercolors, and the Aurora Borealis in pastels & mixed-media projects.

Be sure to contact your schools to find out about the next upcoming spring Art classes with BAAY EduArts!

A Seascape Painting in Mixed-Media Class

Picture
This exciting class will be at Whatcom Community College on May 18th – June 1st, on Thursdays, between 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Capture the beauty of the sea, and leave with your own artistic interpretation on canvas! Mixed-media will allow you to enhance the natural qualities of the seascape by showing movement, glimmers of light on the waves, and textures all around the shore. Local artist Rachel Simpson will cover techniques such as layering, applying acrylic mediums, working with palette knives, and how to apply mixed-media elements onto your seascape painting. Previous art experience is not necessary. Materials fee of $27 payable to instructor at first class.
