Autumn is upon us, and you can already smell the change in the air, as little ones are going back to school, and parents are busy getting back into the rhythm. I’ve great news to share for this school year… I’m now a business owner and an independent contractor as an Art Teacher in the after school arts enrichment program for art classes! You can find me at a few different schools this fall, such as Carl Cozier and at Silver Beach elementary. This also means, that I can travel to various schools in other after school art classes. I hope to see you and your kids in the future of art classes!

Bellingham SeaFeast is Around the Corner on September 22nd
You’re welcome to join me in the fun festivities at the local Bellingham SeaFeast this September, where I’ll be showing & selling my work in an art booth called Rachel’s Whimsical Arts, and teaching a Free Kids Art Activity, from 2:00 – 5:30pm, on Saturday the 22nd, at the Allied Arts of Whatcom County table. You’ll find me making some mermaids with kids, and showing my wee mermaid crowns, wands, drawings that glow bioluminescent fish, acrylic mixed-media paintings, prints, and shells on chandeliers to decorate your home! Handbuilding & Sculpting Ceramics Classes @ Baker Creek Ceramic Studio!
Introduction to Clay, on Thursdays 9:30am - 12:00pm
in September & October - Each Class Session is 5 Weeks
Join local ceramic artist, Rachel Simpson, and learn to create your own cake platters and serving dishes in this 5 week class! Class sessions typically begin with a 30 minute demonstration of techniques followed by free time for students to work on their projects. Class will meet from 6:00pm to 8:30pm or from 9:30am - 12:00pm for five weeks (Select which class is best for you). The last gathering will be to pick up your final work. In this class, you will learn to work with slabs and coiling methods. Students will create their own cake plate using any of these methods. Class session is for $165 and the material fee for clay is $30 per bag. Please bring clay tools, a small hand towel and plastic to cover your work in progress. Dress for mess and come ready to have some fun! This is a beginning level class, meant for people new to clay or who only had a few classes, ages 12 and up. Throwing Basics with Rachel, on Wednesdays 6:00pm – 8:30pm in September & October – Each Class Session is 4 Weeks
Join us at Baker Creek Ceramics for this short and exciting throwing experience! This class is for absolute beginners. You will learn the basics in the introductory class. You will practice wedging, centering and throwing clay cylinders and bowls. In week three, you will trim and decorate your pieces. In week four, you will learn how to glaze. Class will meet Wednesdays 6 to 8:30 pm for 4 sessions. Bring your pottery tools, some plastic to cover your work in progress, a small hand towel, dress for mess and be ready for some fun! Choose to make a classic Green Man mask, Sun/Moon face, or a Nautical themed face with starfish, fish scales, and shapes of shells. Rachel will guide you in sculpting facial features in the right proportions for a realistic mask, or get creative and make it whimsical. Dress for mess and be ready to have some fun with clay! School Arts Enrichment Programs
I teach at a few different elementary schools in the Bellingham School District as an Independent contractor, and as a Teaching Artist with Allied Arts of Whatcom County. This non-profit is one that brings the arts to many kids throughout the schools, and I’m so thankful I can be a part of it.
