Making Art for Future Exhibits

This month, I'm finishing a few art projects that will be a part of a future art exhibit in Bellingham at The Black Drop Coffee House, http://blackdropcoffeehouse.com/

for the month of July. I'm really excited about having all of my 2D art up in the same place for a showing. It will be at a favorite local coffee shop of mine. One of the best places I've ever had the pleasure of having their coffee from locallly roasted coffee beans - Maniac Coffee.

I can remember when it first opened their charming coffee house back in 2002. Then the change of ownership from the founders Teri Bryant and Alexarc Mastema gave their shop to several of their cafe employees in 2009, and all of the great changes since then. It will be wonderful to have my art up in this shop as a part of a community.

Along with my Teacups series, I will also have a few other paintings up on display. Since this is a small space to show my work, I will not have any sculptures or books available for this one. Here are a few images of the current art that I've been working on...

The green and gold painting will include a teacup for the exhibit. I am still doing some experimental layering of paints, pastels, onto recycled teabags for the tulips piece.

This brown piece with three Venus' photo-transfers, was my first attempt at using recycled teabags onto canvas.

Then I had an idea. Why not use some of my altered book scraps of paper and teabags to make a teacup!
The delicate look and feel of this paper teacup makes me think of flowers and one o fmy favorite childhood movies, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder. I can't help but think about the flower he ate in the wonderland of chocolate and sweets. I'm still working on the placement for this teacup, but I'm sure it will be on a canvas at the upcoming event.

If you can come see the art exhibit in July, it will be at:
